Candidate Julian Cyr, who worked for the state Department of Public Health and is on the board of Health Imperatives, which manages several locations on the Cape, including a reproductive health facility in Hyannis, called the lack of access “unacceptable.”

“This is an issue of equity,” he said. “I’m interested in how we can figure out how to make sure that there’s elective abortion access here on the Cape and also all of the other communities in Massachusetts.”

Cyr also pointed out that the distance is even more of a challenge for people living on the Islands.

“We have no elective abortion access here on the Cape, so that means Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are even more isolated,” he said.
